The Puerto Viejo House of Culture contributes to strengthening the cultural identity of the Southern Caribbean. It serves as a meeting place, a hub for social participation, recreational and cultural activities, courses, workshops, and a library. Its extensive activities include exhibitions of visual arts and crafts featuring local, national, and international students and artists. It also operates the Puerto Viejo Telesecundaria (distance learning secondary school). The House of Culture has been part of ArteViva, a festival of music, arts, gastronomy and also a permanent and free education program for the youth of Puerto Viejo.
